Why do we need Leaders?
-Rose Mary
“Human beings are selfish by nature. Everything that happens to a child, you immediately grab your own child and say, “I will never let that happen to you”.- John Darnielle
Human beings are selfish. But the same selfish being, who is always inside H-is/er own box feels that S/he needs a leader. This question is to you- whether you want a leader? As an individual, most of the people don’t want a leader to meet their needs. Let’s imagine the human society before the existence of leaders. There are no leaders, no hierarchy, no bourgeois and hence no proletariats. People would be doing the activities which are needed for their survival. Like collecting food, building shelter, making clothes etc. Then at what time they might have thought that they need a leader? Whether they came in a group and thought about a leader or is it something else?
‘Vaulting ambition’ as said by Shakespeare is one of the most intense as well as innate qualities of human nature. We, humans, are never satisfied because we always look forward to attaining something. And when we attain one target we look up to another aim. Even in the death bed, most us would be saying “nothing more, but Moksha”(heaven/hell/Nirvana). Still, that too is a mission to accomplish. So, in a group, at least one person would be having the tendency/skills/qualities/charisma to tell the group that they are incapable of something which can be attained through the leadership of the respective person. This leader idol can be a person or a group. The person who has the talent to dance will realize that talent and at some point of time S/he will dance. Likewise, the person who has leadership qualities will come forward at a point with H-is/er talent at some point in time. So, It is not the group which needs a leader but a leader who needs a group to follow H-im/er.
